How do you thank past patients when they send new referrals?

If you work in private practice as a therapist and a patient sends a referral, how do you thank them?

Do you phone them?

Do you send a hand-written note?

Or do you wait until they are in your clinic again… and that is presuming you actually remember it?

I don’t think any of these are appropriate to do.

Keep this in mind.

If someone refers a patient or client to you, it probably took a little energy.

They first had to recognise the results you give,

Then they probably chatted about their injury history and experience with you.

Then they probably had to answer some questions about nitty gritty stuff.

My point is this, it took some doing to get the person that they cared about to see the physio or therapist that they care about which is YOU.

So, if it is allowed in your situation, consider doing a better job thanking them.

Maybe get them a personalised thank you gift they would love, not a mug with yoru face on it.

Maybe spend some dollas on that gift and make a big deal out of it because it is a big deal.

How do you feel if you help somebody out and they barely acknowledge it?

Sure, most of use do helpful things without expecting anything in return, but when we get a surprise for our efforts that we were not expecting, how does that make us feel? It usually feels great and that we are appreciated!

What’s a new patient worth to you?

€250

€500

€1000 +

How much does it cost you on paid advertising to attract new patients on your own?

It could cost more than a personalised gift for 20 quid, not to mention that the person who was directly referred to you is already pre-framed seeing you in a better way.

This means likely better buy-in, more commitment to treatment of care plans or services and more time spent with you which means more success for your business.

If you are not doing a great job of saying thank you to patients for referrals, especially with the current climate, you might have some work to do.
